  1. A quick look at records and it's from MOST Islamic countries, including Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Turkey, Dubai, Saudi Arabia. and Egypt. That was a 5 minute search, but clearly the name means something in the Islamic world and isn't related to a single country.

  2. It is an Arab name, so would originaly have come from where Arabs ORIGINALLY came from, the areas we now know of as Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman etc...in effect the Arabian Peninsula.

It is most commonly used by Muslim Arabs, but as Arab names are VERY common among peoples who have adopted Islam, it is also used by Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Turks, Kurds, Afghans, Somalis etc.

The name wouldnt be used by Christian peoples in Arab countries, as most Christians in the Mid east are not really of Arab origin anyway.

PS; Ethiopia is not an Islamic country, its predominantly Christian.

  3. It sounds like an Indian name.  It could be India or Pakistan.  India has a large Muslim population.  The suffix ji denotes respect.
