From YOUR experience, when did driving become difficult?

I am currently 28w2d pregnant with my first baby, and I commute 1/2 hr EACH way to work each day (so an hour total everyday of driving). So far, I have had NO problems with this.

I am just wondering when it became difficult or uncomfortable for you pregnant ladies to keep driving further distances? I mean 1/2 hour isn't long at ALL to me but when I'm really pregnant, it might seem long.

I am working until I'm 36 weeks so no matter what, I have to keep driving until then.

My other concern is when I am 35 weeks, I am going home for my baby shower (my mom is having it in my hometown). This is a 5 hour drive away. My husband will be driving but I will be still be in the car for 10 hours total. I know we will have to make frequent stops so that I can pee and walk around a bit, but other than that... do you think I should have any problems? My pregnancy has been great and I am used to being in the car for long distances since we usually drive there about once every 1-2 months.

Anyways, what was YOUR experience with driving later in pregnancy?

Thanks in advance! :o)

  1. I am 33 weeks...It takes me 1/2 an hour to get to work, but close to 45 min to get home.  The drive home really makes me tired.  MY back and hips hurt by the time I get home.

  2. I became uncomfortable in the car around 34 weeks.  And only then it was after at least and hour in the car.  My back would KILL!

  3. I never found it difficult to drive or be driven towads the end of my pregnancy...I was driving to the hairdressers when i was 12 days over due to go and get my hair cut and coloured!!!

Congrats on having a girl and good luck!!

  4. it is different for everybody but i am now 36 weeks and driving has just recently become a little more difficult. mostly feeling like i am a comfortable distance away from the steering wheel while still being close enough to drive comfortably. i, too have had a great pregnancy so hopefully you'll be fine to keep driving til you start maternity leave. i am planning on working until the baby is born because i don't want to waste any of my maternity leave waiting around for a baby but i can understand why some women take leave before the baby since days are very tiring.

good luck with your shower! my family lives away so i made sure that the shower they threw for me happened when i was about 30 weeks because i was not travelling far away at any point after that.

  5. I'm 38 weeks now, and its just getting uncomfortable to turn round and reverse and to get in and out the car.

Driving is fine though, just have to move the seat back a bit from the steering wheel! lol..

  6. Ive had no problems at all the only thing i do different is remove my seat belt for reversing into my driveway

    Im only 51" and 40 1/2 weeks

  7. I'm almost 38 weeks and still driving.  It's only a 20 minute drive to work (I am still working full time), but my ob is 1.5 hours away, and I make that trip at least once a week.  No problems.

  8. today was the first day i notice that my feet can barely reach the peddles anymore because i have to keep moving the seat back to fit my belly however i am 37weeks and only 5'2''

  9. It isn't really difficult to me.  People have told me that it would be hard to reach the wheel with the seat far enough back for my belly, but it's not.  I have had carpal tunnel here in the last few weeks of pregnancy, though, and it does get uncomfortable gripping the wheel.  I'd ask the doctor about riding for 10 hours.

  10. I had no problems with driving anytime during my pregnancy.  I didn't go on any long trips, but I was going to school which was a 30 minute drive.

  11. Well, I am 38 weeks now and still do not have any problems driving. The only thing that is difficult is moving the seat forward - if my husband drove my car somewhere the day before. Sometimes your back can become a little achy from sitting in the same position. I think a five hour drive should be fine.. just lots of pit stops on the way there! Best of luck to you!

  12. For me i was 8months. I 1st started to notice it at night but as time went by it was during the day to. I had high blood pressure around the same time, so i believe they were related. Some people never have problems so I wouldn't worry to much about it. Also when it happen to me I could still see it just got a little worse. Good Luck :)

  13. It's getting very difficult for me right now... it's a tight squeeze between my stomach and the steering wheel.  It's also hard to turn and check when backing out.  I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow.  As far as the 5 hour drive at 35 weeks, I'd try to see if your mom can bump it up a couple weeks.  Just in case...
