  1. time doesn't exist. its an allusion. more like it layers itself in past present and future. and those 3 periods are all happening at once. clocks measure events on a time line. but time can pass slowly or quickly to a person, even though the rate of the clocks ticking stays the same. so if, personally, time's speed is always changing its only real to the person experiencing it.

this makes sense in my head, but I'm not sure if I'm communicating it well enough. i hope you understand what im trying to say....

  2. No it just passes.

  3. Ask yourself do a centimetre exist? The object it measuring exists but the unit of measure don't. Its just a judgement to compare two or more things. Time is just a unit of measure, it does not exist.

  4. time is the rotation of plants, that is when planets go round they cause what we know as sunset and sunrise. with every sunset and sunrise a day passes, 2, 3, ... months , years...  and that what we know and calculate as time. behind the rotation of planets and movement of stars, time stops there is no time above this continous motion.

  5. Existence itself is meaningless without the "mighty" TIME.

  6. Depends on your metaphysical stance, if you claim that nothing exists due to not being able to prove it, then time also does not exist.  We and it are just a dream in the mind of a God.

  7. Only God exists.  Everything else is transitory and ephemeral.

  8. oh gaah! don't tell the philosophy professors that, they'd have class forever!!!!

  9. No, time is an illusion

  10. It's in the philosophy section,I can help, time does not exist for a serious philosopher.

What is the essence of time? How can you tell "Here there is time"?

By change.Change is the sign for time.

In order a thing to exist it has to be itself.

When a thing changes is it itself or other than itself or what?

I did this...Parmenides did it before me, you can read Isaac Asimov's "The End of Eternity" and if you like it then read "The Gods Themselves"!

    Ask if there's more

  11. Try this.

You have point A, and Point B. I guy standing at point A, jumps half the way to point B every time he moves. Obviously he will never get there right? Is he actually moving forward?

Infinite entities are special. Ask yourself, is 100 a big number?

    compared to 10Billion...

    compared to .000001?

Time exists on a basic level, no doubt. But how reliable is that existence. We use time to measure passing, but in order to measure, we need a base of comparison. I can't tell you if 100 is a big number. Even if I compare it to a much smaller number like .00003 or something, how big is that number?

In the same instance, how long is an hour versus a year? So you see, yes it exists, but the real question is: How reliable is that existence?

What you need to say to your class or whatever, is that there is no "base of comparison". Time is infinite, meaning it cannot be measured, or fathomed by humans with such finite existences. The reality of time as we know it is not an illusion; its wrong. Blow your f***ing teaching away with that one.

  12. All things in the Universe, from electrons to galaxies, move. There is a constant cycle of birth, growth and death, sunrises, sunsets and seasons. They are all measured by Time and you could say it exists, just like all the atoms, waves of energy, light and all the unseen, intangible things in the world. Every second, minute, hour, day, week, etc we are thinking and using Time with our friends or colleagues. Time is indeed  part of reality. If it is non-existent, then we would not mention it at all.

So if Space and Time exist, then technically, Speed, being a relationship of both, must also exist. It is as simple as that. It is infact almost impossible nowadays in our age of infinite information and high technology to conceive of anything that is 'not existing' at all. If Big Bang existed, galaxies and the Universe are expanding, and the Big Crush will come one day, then it is because of the existence of Time. See the Times displayed and continually kept updated for everyone's answer here--8,9,10,11 hrs ago....?    :-))

  13. Yes. Humans have been created to be sustained by an environment that consists of time, space and gravity. so it does exist, just as gravity and space.

from a philosphical stand point one can say it does not exist for spiritual beings as it is the environment created exclusively for humans.
