We are arriving in Rome on Wednesday and we'll leave for the town on Cortona on Saturday. We'll have a car and we plan on driving to Pisa for a day and Florence for one or two days. We have a villa in Cortona for 8 days and a car the whole time. Just thought we might take a day trip by train somewhere a little further away.

  1. YES

  2. You could try the Winetrain:

Climb aboard and experience the first taste of historic wines complimented by a visual feast through the green heart of

Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Winetrain* will transport you on a memorable trip starting from Siena to Montalcino, taking in enchanting vistas of rolling hills, vineyards and the famous Crete Senesi.

In a country known for its slow paced way of life and the La Dolce Vita, you can relax travelling in an eternal landscape of art and history searching for ancient vines or future wines, then the Winetrain can offer you an unforgettable, convivial trip down memory lane.

  3. There are a lot of places in the Tuscany area that are good day trips depending on where you're staying. From Florence, good trips include Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa & Lucca, Arezzo, Perugia, Viareggio (beach city), Bologna, Cinque Terre. You could even do a day trip to Rome. It would be helpful to know where you will be, when you'll be there and something about what your interests are to provide more useful suggestions. For example, there are a lot of possible local festivals at various times through the summer. There's a medieval festival coming up in San Gimignano in June or Corpus Domani in Orvieto at the end of May.
