[Note: Please no trolls. If you're not willing to read what's below and give this matter some thought, don't just throw out some stupid one-liner for attention. Thank-you]

1. All men are created equal. Therefore the law given by the Creator is the supreme authority over all men.

2. All men are created equal. Therefore the authority of any government created by men to rule over other men is derived by the consent of those governed.

3. Authority of one man over another is achieved through the ability of the rich or powerful to overcome and oppress the vulnerable.

Note: Please don't suggest that democracy (the majority rules) or representative government (free elections etc.) are another source of authority. If the axiom "all men are created equal" is true, no popular vote or popularly elected representative has the authority to dictate terms to a man their equal.

If, however, this axiom "all men are created equal" is NOT the case, then, vote or not, the sole source of authority is that which flows from the barrel of a gun.

So pick one of the three as to the source of the authority for America's government.

Then tell me the TRUE reason why Obama wants to ban citizens from owning guns.

  1. true democracy is no 2. oh the guns. it will never work, Charlton Heston said it best."You can take my gun when you can pry it from my cold dead fingers"

  2. Your question assumes 'authority' and 'equal' are somehow mutually exclusive.  And in your 'Note:' lies the main problem with your logic.  You assume 'All Men Are Created Equal' trumps all other clauses of the constitution.  But it's the sum total of the constitution that defines our laws. As I said, equal vs authority is a funny parallel.  Even the president gets just one vote, and he can too can be incarcerated for committing murder or some other crime.

So LAW is the authority, and congress makes the laws, and we elect our congressmen.  We are all subject to and protected by these laws EQUALLY.

Obama doesn't want to ban citizens from owning guns.  How can you spend 20 minutes constructing a complicated constitutional law question, and then throw in an unfair charge at the end?  Obama wants to work with our existing gun laws to make sure people with criminal records or a history of mental illness have a harder time obtaining firearms.  He would put in place instantaneous background checks so YOU can get your guns and ammo quicker, while horrific killings like what happened at Virginia Tech might be prevented.

  3. Ok, so this all assumes one glaring error: the "creation."

Let's assume for a second that the creation actually occurred.  god created men and womyn and wanted for them to assemble, blah blah. If creation actually happened, then government has absolutely no authority, only god does, since he/she/it created the institution and has domain over it.

But, in reality, governments derive authority from organization and fear. If you step out of line in the US, you get sent to jail (even if you're non violent) and have to basically just "serve your time." You're likely to be raped, commit suicide, or develop serious mental illness. That's just given fact. People are scared of going to jail, so they stay in line.

If, though, governments didn't have authorities that policed and punished the citizen, there is a source of authority that could actually be derived from respect! GASP! Voting is direct authority (when they're actually counted...we're talking about a utopian society, here) and direct representation in the government. But, because democracy in practice is largely artificial, governments (even our own) has to rely on fear to keep the people in line. From everything to not paying your bills to posessing marijuana, you become a prisoner of the state, subject to their whims and attitudes.

Oh, and Obama doesn't wanna "tik ur gunz" away. Are you kidding me??? Why are gun people so utterly paranoid about their weapons being taken from them. Is your identity so wrapped around the barrel that you're willing to shoot the country in the face as to keep it??? REALLY???

  4. Well, i'd believe that the origins of this country tended to lean towards #2 and that was the reasoning behind the Constitution.

However, the Constitution and the idea that it was meant merely to protect your rights, and stop you from infringing on other's right has gotten pissed on..

EX. Now governments try to control what you smoke in your own house, what you drink, what you eat......where in the past it was as long as it didn't hurt your neighbor, it was none of their business..

I would argue that America has sadly grown towards #3 and as the people lose their rights ( like to be free of government intrusion even though not infringing on any other's rights)....we gain a new master...Exxon.

"And once I saw that the government was no longer the slave to the people it was designed to be, but had become the people's master." Jerry Spence

Has Obama said he wants to ban guns...or is this a Fox News reporting thing?
