From what I have been reading US citizens wont need a passport to enter Canada until June 2009.

  1. Yes and no. I recently read up on that because I'm going to Canada on for my honeymoon. If you fly in...yes, you need your passport. If you drive in...no, you don't need your passport. You will need your birth certificate and drivers license. I read this on travel.state.gov website. Hope that helps! But you are right...by June 2009 regardless if you fly or drive, you will need a passport,


  2. US Citizens Visiting Canada by Air

    Since September 30, 2007, American citizens flying to Canada have needed a passport.

    (In February 2007, the new passport requirements were relaxed for children. Read Crossing the Canada / US Border with Children.)

    US Citizens Visiting Canada by Land or Water

    As of Dec 21, 2007, passport requirements have been once again delayed meaning that US citizens arriving in Canada by land or water do not need a passport until at least summer 2009.
