  1. Yea Im pretty sure it's spain too or I think Spain introduced the horse to America.  Thats a tuff question!

  2. No one knows exactly where the first early horses were native to.  The only truly wild non feral horse known in modern times is Przewalski's horse.  It came from the central Asia steppes of Mongolia and Northern China.  The last truly wild one was last seen in 1968.  Thus it is now most likely extinct in the wild though its descendants can still be found in the wild nomadic herds of Mongolia.

It is not known weather all the domestic horses came from Przewalski's horse or weather multiple horse species were used.  The Mongolians did conquer much of Asia with horses but horses were well known and widespread long before that time with several 'breeds' world wide.

All other 'wild' horses are actually feral horses not truly wild ones.  Here is the difference.  A feral animal is a domesticated animal that has escaped or been released and is now living in the wild.  Thus man kind has had a direct influence on the genetics of the animal.  Selecting for traits that are beneficial to man but not necessarily a good trait to have in the wild.  The most common manipulation is one on behavior.  Mankind seeks to select animals with a tractable trainable temperament and a reduced flight or fight response.  Seeking animals that will be less dominant and less aggressive.  A wild animal is one that has never been domesticated thus still has all the 'wild genes' still intact.

  3. I think mexico

  4. spain i think

either there or the middle east

  5. Middle East, where the Arabian came from, but it may not have been called Arabia. Some others say from Africa, the zebra, but no one is sure because they have been around for years.

  6. What is now arabia I think, but I would have but have just looked up, they were all over Europe and Asia and what is now America as far back as 2500BC as seen from cave paintings.

  7. the start of the Equus trait originated in north America 55 million years ago by fossil records found by paleontologists.they migrated over the natural land bridge called the Bering strait into what is now called Siberia and then on to Asia,Europe.the Middle East and into northern Africa.about 8.000 BC due to climate change and human hunters they vanished from the North American continent.they were reintroduced by the conquistadors in the 16th century and the wild bands have spread again across America.

edit:the fossils of the equus breed found in nevada predate any fossils of the equus breed found anywhere in the world.the horses are called equus nevadensis and equus occidentalis.

my source was taken from"fossil horses:systematics, paleobiology, and evolution of the family equidae"printed in 1992 by cambridge press.written by B.J.Mcfadden.

and "revision of north american fossil species of the genus Equus (mammalia:perissodactyla:Equidae) unpublished PH,D dissertation, university of Texas,Austin by M.C.Winans in 1985.

  8. Northern Near East, northern Middle East much of west and central Asia. The first people who actually used horses lived in what is today Turkey, Armenia, Syria, Ukraine and Iran. That is where they ocurred naturally. Horses are far less changed from the "original", than are, for example, dogs. Horses can fend for themselves in the wild, totally independent from people.

Horses are grazers, they thrive in semi-arid steppe or savannah areas, that is mixed grasslands and shrublands. Wild horses (with domestic ancestors) are today found in Namib desert and in the Western semi arid regions of the USA, in environments very similar to the Near East and Middle East. For the same reason, they thrive in Spain, which has many semi-arid regions. They are not native to Spain, however.

Zebra, a close relative of horses, are found on African savannah and semi arid regions. Donkeys (an even closer relative) also thrive in treeless, often drier, areas, which offers grazing (grasses and shrubs) rather than browsing (trees). Seeing that they prefer this type of habitat, explains why horses are often associated with places such as the Wild West, Southern Africa during the Boer war, Australia and South America, particularly the pampas of Argentina.

Interestingly, did you know that after donkeys and zebra, rhinosceros are the next closest relatives of horses?
