From which age can you put your baby in a high chair?

Hi, my 4 months old son is very sociable and always likes to be around me and his dad, no matter what we're doing. When we sit down for dinner we put him next to us on the ground in his swing chair, but most of the time he gets bored of that after a few minutes and wants to be in our laps to see what's going on.

Do I have to wait until he can sit up right to put him in a high chair, so he can join us at the table (even though he's not eating with us yet of course) or are there chairs that are suitable for him already at this age? And if so, does anyone know which?

Thanks!

  1. I BOUGHT A HIGHCHAIR FOR MY SON AT THAT AGE..IT WAS FOR INFANTS AND UP..IT HAD SHOULDER STRAPS OF INFANTS..IT IS A BABY TREND

  2. You should wait until he can support himself, but you could support him with towels or blankets.  Many highchairs recline too.

  3. Honestly, putting your baby in a high chair before they can sit up really is not good for them. What I did when I wanted my daughter to join us at the table, me and my hubby took turns holding her or we got this:

Yes, there has been talk about recalls, but that is only if you put the baby on a counter and then leave and are not within arms reach. Use it with common sense and when you are able to be RIGHT BY your child and it works great! You can put it on a chair next to you at the table.

If you insist on a high chair, get one with cushion and that is snug fitting with something that goes between their legs as a block as well as a three point harness. Even if you recline the high chair what I found is the baby will try to sit up and if their muscles are not fully developed yet, it won't be good for them.

  4. Around 4 months my BIL bought us a high chair , and we love it. Its a big comfy one, that folds flat for storage you can raise it to any height and recline it for infants, and it has a shoulder and lap harness. Its a Safety 1st high chair , it has froggies on it, I dont like the design but it works very well. and it has a removable tray that can be stored in the back of the chair and has a smaller tray. But she sits in it great and with the big tray attached she doesnt need the harness on, but of course I am sitting right there . Here is the link to the one I have, you really cant see the design but you get the idea. Its the 1st highchair on the page.

  5. Only when they can sit up.  It should be soon though.  I remember my daughter sitting in a high chair at 6 months old.

  6. I think the baby has to be about 6 months well kinda i don't know because my bro is 1 years old and he is in his high chair so it's about 6 months yeah

  7. my son is 4 1/2 months and we put him in the highchair for the same reason. he cant sit on his own yet but he holds his head up well so we just put a blanket around him to hold him in place better and he does just fine!

  8. If the high chair reclines, you can put your baby in it whenever you choose.  I started putting my children in the high chair around 4 months as well.  Prior to that, they were still sleeping through our meal times, so it was easier to just lay them down while we ate. Just remember to use the safety belt and always keep an eye on him.  There are a lot of different chairs that recline, you just have to find the one you like.  I'll post a link of the one that I have.

  9. My son is 4 months old and is exactly the same!  He is happiest sitting upright and checking out what is going on around him.  The highchair we wanted (Graco Contempo) was on sale at Target last week, so we bought it.  It has 3 recline positions and a 5 point harness to keep him from slumping forward.  He has great head control, and can sit propped up without a problem - so even though he can't sit up unassisted, he does well in this chair and is very happy sitting next to us at meals.

I also put him in it when I am doing housework or cooking (away from the heat or other dangers obviously) so he can see me - he seems to like it when I talk to him and tell him about what I am doing.  I was surprised that he would like it as much as he does...  Have fun with your social little boy!

  10. If he can hold his head up and sit up with support then I don't see why he couldn't be in a high chair for a little bit while you're sitting right there.  You might want to roll up a couple blankies and put one on each side to help support him, and just watch out for his head falling forward so he doesn't bump it on the tray.  They do make high chairs that recline so you don't have to worry about the wobbliness as much.  Any store that sells high chairs will most likely have reclining ones as well.

  11. I have a high chair that reclines a bit and I have been putting my son in it since he started eating at 4 months.  He is now 5months and I have been slowly adjusting the chair upwards.

  12. my son at  4 months was sitting up so we were able to put him in his high chair, if your son can hold himself up he should be fine in his high chair.

also you can get table top swings and vibrating seats.... I had one that was perfect to set right ontop the table while I was sitting down!

  13. My 5 month old is almost sitting up by herself, so I put her in the highchair, and the tray kind of help keeps her upright.  I would say if he's close to sitting up by himself, then he can be in the highchair, pulled up to the table. The Bumbo chair might be an option, too.  We put the Bumbo right on the table with us sometimes, and she sits in that.
