  1. Cotton fruit is known as the boll. The boll consists of the outer boll cover which cracks and opens when the boll is mature and exposes the cotton inside along with the seed for the dispersion of seeds.

Cotton fibres are actually the fibrous outer surface of the hard seedcoat.

  2. fires cover the seed, the seed is a leftover once fiber is obtained in a gin

  3. Exocarp , Mesocarp and Endocarp are the division of fruit wall of a DRUPE  type of fruit such as Coconut ( Fibrous drupe and Mango ( Fleshy drupe ).

COTTON  fruit is a Capsule that breaks open to expose the seeds .

So the words Exocarp , Mesocarp and Endocarp are redundant here !!!!!

The cotton fibres are the outgrowths on the seed coat  or testa .

  4. Nice summary, with pictures of cotton trichome development:

I concur with Maverick... cotton fiber is derived from epidermal cells of the testa. the seed coat -- these are unicellular trichomes.  Cotton fruit wall doesn't get in on the act at all, except as a protective covering during seed development.
