From which side of a exterior door do you decide if it is left hand hung or right hand hung?

Face the door from the outside . k**b on the right / left hand open / hung

heres our rule of thumb...put ur noise on the hinge pin and what ever hand reaches for the door k**b then that is the hand of the door......

You would normally state which side hinged, viewed from which position, ie left hand hinged, viewed from inside. It is usual to hang a door so that the latch edge is adjacent to any light switch, so that you aren't reaching around the door to turn on the light when you open it.
