Question:

Front Brakes on a 74 rd 350?

I'm fixing the front brakes and I'm not sure about something. Do both front brake pads move in and out or does just on side move?

Please no response needed if your not sure. I need experienced advice on this one. If it does just move on one side, then will the brakes still function with only one side moving?

  1. been awhile since the old RDs ..

from what I remember the caliper has pistons on one side only,,  & the whole caliper slides on the mounting bolts to keep the caliper lined up on the disc...

this is called a floating caliper..  newer bikes have pistons both sides & the disc itself floats..

if your fixing the front brakes you may want to look at getting steel braided lines for the front..  this makes a huge differance to the effectivness of the front brakes..

Just had a look & found this site.. same brakes RZ yam..  great pics..

  2. Twin Piston caliper.

    Both Pads are live.

No,,the brakes wont function with only 1 side moving.

On a '74,,I'd strongly recommend putting a rebuild kit in the Caliper and the Master Cylinder.

    I'm sure.
