how do you play front right

I'm 15 and 4' 11''

I'm short

i have like no vertical and i need one any ways to help me improve my vertical

i need help on on front right serve receive

and serving over hand for that matter (not the best underhand server either)

what do i need to do to be able to make my JV team for HS

my coach's are really encouraging for me to keep trying i have a good platform they said with my arms and i have really good foot work also

for the most part i can get the ball over the net but not by much and tryouts for my school are not till august and I'm really worried that i wont make it but my coach's know i have the ability to do whatever they want me to with time

also this is my first year playing and this is the FIRST time i have ever put this much effort into something i wanna do and i really want to make the team

i will do whatever it takes

  1. Gah. 4'11" and front hitter position? Not good. It's not your fault you are not good at the position, you really need height to be able to play hitter and 4'11" just ain't gonna cut it. But it's not impossible if you practice hard! I think you can do it! If you think you can't then, talk to your coach about a different position.  Unless you can jump really really high to be able to block and hit over the net.

    To serve:

    1) Throw the ball about 2 feet over your head and a little bit in front of you

    2) Hit the ball right in the middle with your palm as hard as you can

    3) Practice this a lot

    How to practice at home:

    1) Make a mark 7.4 feet high on an open wall on the side of your house

    2) Make a line on the ground 30 feet back from the wall

    3) Practice serving from the 30 foot line (make sure all the balls hit the wall over the mark you made)

    4) Get closer to the wall and practice bumping and setting the ball against the wall (over the line)

This is like the set up of a high school volleyball court.

    Practice Hitting at home:

    1) Get a few feet back from the wall

    2) Throw the ball hard against the wall over the 7.4 foot mark on the wall

    3) Jump up and hit the ball really hard

-Get on top of the ball and hit as hard as you can (make sure it goes over the line you made, thats like the net)

    Good luck

  2. since your real short the best way instead of hitting the ball which will be hard since your so short (unless u have an explosive jump) is to just roll shot the ball.

  3. im in the same boat as you...but im an incoming freshman hoping to make any team (fresh, JV)..anyways, trust me, ive playin on junior olypmic teams and there are many gurls shorter than u..SO DONT WORRY!!  height doesnt matter if ur a good athlete!!  on right front serve receive, (if ur on ur base), u just stand on the ten foot line near (but not on) the "out of bounds" line....serving overhand just takes practice, ive been doin it since 5th grade, so its just second nature to me now.....all u hav to do is stand with ur fett shoulder width, right foot a lil in front, stretch ur arm out all the way across ur buddy so it is in front of ur right arm, bend ur right arm bak like in archery so ur elbow is at ear-level, toos ball above ur head (u will find out from experience how high YOU will need it), step forward with ur left foot, and swing thru.....takes time to perfect it, BUT U WILL!!

just keep practicing this summer!! maybe check to see if you can join any summer leagues!!! they really help!!!   hope i helped!!  good luck on makin the team!!

  4. well start practacing now while you still have the summer go outside and on a wall start bumping and shuffling (moving side to side back and forth while somewhat croched down) twords it then for setting try this it really helps me cause im short also try getting the ball and then standing to a tree that is about the net but a little bit higher then star to set over a branch on top pretending your setting someone up then also going again against the wall and shaping your hands into a wide diamond when the ball comes down push upwards with your fingertips giving it a momentum and force making a "rainbow" set. now for underhand serving try stepping really close to the wall and start underhand serving then step farther and farther away when you get comfortable step as far as away you can and then try it; when it comes to overhand its all about timing and aiming find where your fingertips touch when you put your hand up thats were your ball should go then throw it up that high and time yourself hit and then follow through with your middle finger you should start progressing with some practice. im sure you will do wonderful if you just keep practicing and keep that motivation C: good luck
