Question:

Frontline Combo not working for my cat?

I gave my cat his regular dose of Frontline combo nearly 9 days ago. However I noticed he was itching alot lately and have found fleas on him. What is the difference between Frontline combo and the spot on. Can I give him another dose or should I take him to the vet? I've not had a problem with Frontline before, I've been using it for over 12 months.

  1. no its gonna take time for the front line to kick in it takes 24 hours so it shouldn't be a problem i give my cat a bath and hes almost over a year old and he hardly has fleas and if the stuff don't work in about 2 days then try a different flea stuff or a flea collar

  2. You should take him to the vet, but if you want something that works really well, the treatments where you put a line of ointment down the spine and rub it in the fur are the ones that have worked the best on my animal.

  3. Definitely do NOT give him another dose. That could prove toxic.  I urge you to take your cat to the vet, explain the situation, and ask for a recommendation.

Whatever you do, NEVER EVER use Hartz, Sergeant’s, Sentry, Farnam, Adam’s, Bio Spot, Scratchex Flea & Tick Products, Flys-Off, Zodiac, or Vet Kem. These brands are responsible for poisoning thousands and thousands of cats and dogs.

  4. Frontline Combo contains an ingredient that should inhibit the development of flea eggs whereas the normal Frontline doesn't. Either way, if you have used Frontline regularly ie. every 4-5wks you shouldn't really have a flea problem. Am assuming as you've used it for so long you have the application well sussed & it always goes on the skin not the hair? It wouldn't be a bad idea to contact Merial if you are having a problem though as they would expect you not to

have to use an environmental spray with Combo!

    Good luck !

  5. There's no reason why it shouldn't work.  It's just possible that your cat is still itching from bites he already had and finding fleas on him might be he has just picked them up (like from another cat or he's been lying in the grass where a hedgehog has been) and the frontline hasn't had a chance to kill them.  I wouldn't give him another dose because it's quite strong stuff but if you got the stuff from the vet and you are worried about it, just ring the vet for advice.

  6. if he goes outdoors he's probably picking them up every time he goes outside, and they bite him and then they die, but he still scratches because he's still getting bit

frontline doesn't repel fleas from jumping on your cat it just kills them after they bit him

try not letting him out into the infested area or defleaing your yard

don't give him another dose since it is a very strong poison

  7. FRONTLINE KILLS FLEAS WHEN THEY JUMP ONTO YOUR CAT ..IT DOESN'T DETER THEM FOR GOING ON THE CAT JUST MEANS THAT ONCE THEY ARE THERE THEY AREN'T GOING TO LIVE VERY LONG.

    .

SO I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU HAVE A FLEA PROBLEM INSIDE YOUR HOME..

THAT OR YOU CAT IS MIXING WITH OTHERS THAT AREN'T BEING TREATED.

HAVE YOU SPRAYED THE HOUSE.. SPRAYED HE CATS BEDDING .. GIVEN EVERYTHING A THROUGH CLEAN UP .

  8. Use Advantage

  9. Your house / his bed has fleas. And he is reinfested.

Some have said to wash the cat with Dawn.

but here is how to get rid of house fleas.

    I

    F YOUR HOUSE HAS FLEAS….

I have a NATURAL remedy for getting rid of fleas in your house.

Go to the Store and buy some 20 Mule Team BORAX.

Then sprinkle it all over. Carpets, couch, bedding, pillows, pet beds, car, even wood floors. (NOT ON YOUR PET!)

    THEN VACCUME IT UP.

What Boax does is coats the eggs ... The eggs hatch deformed or unable to reproduce.

You will have to do this 2 or 3x about a week apart in order to get all the egg cycles.

FOR YOUR PET. Use the flea killer that is on the market or use a flea comb (this is also a head lice comb) especially for kittens or puppys who are too young to have insecticide put on them.

Kill the fleas that you find on the comb with soap or alcohol

  10. Unfortunately, it's not a flea repellent, it just kills them. He'll probably continue getting bitten every time he goes outside as fleas will come off the grass etc.

I'd ask the vet if there is a product you can purchase that might repel the fleas also.

  11. Hi there!

I use a shampoo that repels fleas. Once each season is enough it's not a good idea to wash cats with the stuff more than that, because they loose their natural oils which keeps their skin and coat in top condition. You could also invest in a good flea collar. When my cat comes with me to visit my brother she never catches fleas from his cats, and trust me they have lot's of fleas!!!

    good luck
