Frontline not working on my dog?

I have an 8 month old Puggle. I have been using Frontline for 3 months and it doesn't seem to work. He keeps scratching and nipping at his back end and around his neck. I've tried the Hartz flea baths which work WONDERS for about 24 hours, then he goes back to nipping and scratching. I talked to a person at the park who had a small dog. They said flea collars worked great for them, so I purchased the Hartz 2-in-1 collar and put it on just this afternoon for the first time. Hopefully this will help. I'm a bit upset because Frontline is supposed to be top of the line, but it seemed virtuall ineffective. Note: I was very careful to read and apply exactly as directed.

  1. Where are you obtaining the frontline from? Buying it from vet is the only way you can be sure it will be safe or effective.

If you are unhappy with frontline try Advantix.Only get it from a vet.

Hartz, sargents and bio spot are all unreliable and cause toxicities in small animals.

Collars are junk and can cause all kinds of problems from accidental hanging to hair loss.

    Apply frontline appropriatly.

The dog should be completely dry.

No baths 2 days before or after applying or it will not absorb properly.

Apply it every 28 days versus once a month.

  2. Never combine any two kinds of insecticides.  This could be deadly for your pet.  There are plenty other reasons why pets itch, besides fleas.  Are you seeing fleas on your dog?  He could have an allergy to flea bites, or an allergy to most anything else. Take the flea collar off the dog if you have already used Frontline. If you are having a bad problem with fleas, you are going to need to do something about your home.  Fleas need to be eliminated at their source for flea preventative to be effective.  Take your pet to the vet's and have the itching checked, and ask about home treatment while you are there.  Good luck.
