Question:

Frontline on nursing cats? good or bad?

well i have now noticed my newborn kittens have got flea's! Poor things. I have tried combing but do not have a proper flea comb. I assume on Monday i will be able to buy this from a vet- fingers crossed. If i start using frontline or similar on the nursing mother- i hear it is safe for nursing cats- would this be worse for the kittens? (as the flea's would all move to the kittens?)

We have used spot on treatments in the past but never tried frontline and were unaware of fleas being in the house.

Can flea household sprays be used around kittens?

I knwo i cannot flea the kittens until they weigh over 1000g/1kg so not for a while yet.

whats the best course of action? flea the other cats and continue to comb the kittens?

thanks

  1. The instructions will tell you.

I have used Revolution on a nursing mother after reading the directions for it and everything was fine.  That solution worked out very well.  We have a kitten now who we found who was infested.  I gave him a bath and that killed a bunch of them and most of the rest have died even though it's the other cats who have been treated.

  2. if you read all the information in the packet frontline IS safe for nursing mothers. if you are not sure about using it still then rather than a spot on get the frontline spray. it has been tested and is safe to use on puppys and kittens from 2 days of age. i would recommend spraying the frontline onto a cloth then rubbing it on the kittens rather than spraying it directly on to them. i have used the spray on kittens at work and have no problems. using a comb will still help reduce the number if fleas. Would aalsomake sure  you clean the bedding daily other wise the fleas will keep laying eggs and the cycle will take longer to break down and stop.

    hope this has helped

  3. no pls dont do it. i sprayed frontline on my cat when she was giving the milk to her kittens and they died. she had  2 kittens and i cried for a whole day afterwards cause i didnt know that it was not good

  4. Read the directions,,, its not safe for nursing mothers.
