Frost covers to be deployed at Cheltenham
Simon Claisse, CHELTENHAM'S clerk of the course, is confident of good conditions for Saturdays’ festival trials.
The frost covers were deployed on the course last evening in order to make things comfortable for the runners.
After an hour long snow fall on Friday night, the conditions at the course were likely to become problematic.
However, Simon Claisse has said that the things are completely under control, and despite the frost cover, he is not expecting any problems for runners come race day.
Meanwhile, the clerk assured that the snow has been cleared, and the stage is ready for the high profile show.
"Most of the snow has gone now. We are still planning to put the frost covers down later this morning and the snow should have completely cleared in an hour,” said Claisse.
He added, "We might have a frost tonight when temperatures are forecast to drop to -1C but with the covers on we aren't anticipating any problems."
Cheltenham is scheduled to host a number of exciting contests on Saturday, January 28, 2012. The party will begin with the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial at 12:55 (local time).
In the opening contest, there will be six participants including Baby Mix, Hollow Tree, Pearl Swan, Tango De Juilley, Colebrooke and Grumeti.
Baby Mix, the four-year-old, is stepping into the contest with a victory under his belt. In his previous outing in the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial Juvenile Hurdle, Gdm Partnership’s owned horse grabbed the top position, outperforming, Hinterland, by seven
lengths.
However, it will not be easy for any jockey to wrap up the event as a winner. Grumeti failed to ignite that spark in his previous outing in the Berkshire Stand Bookshop Juvenile Hurdle earlier this month. However, alongside other contestants, he will
be the centre of attention.
After JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial (Registered As The Finesse Juvenile Hurdle Race), the course will host Timeform Novices´ Handicap Chase, followed by Murphy Group Chase (Handicap), Argento Chase (Registered As The Cotswold Chase).
In the afternoon, Neptune Investment Management Novices´ Hurdle will take place. Moreover, the final two events of the day will be Grade 2Rewards4Racing Cleeve Hurdle, and Stellar Football "End of Transfer Window" Handicap Hurdle.
