Frozen food donation?

I have some frozen dinner entrees and bags of frozen vegetables I would like to donate. I am not eating them and they are taking up a lot of room in my freezer. I want to help those in need. Do you know of any charities or organizations that would accept them? Please help.

  1. Good luck with that one, many charities are picky as h## about what they receive and what I did which I would not recommend but I go to a seedy side of town and look for poor folk and just hand it to them. I had a car load of sandwiches going to be thrown out from a local store and the expiration date had just expired and I have been overrun by sandwiches my husband would bring home that had been tossed out and I saw a couple walking around, very skinny and kinda lost looking and I pulled up and asked them would they like some food and you know what? They were just praying how they were going to find something to eat and I had enough sandwiches there to do them at least a week and all they kept saying over and over is thank you, God bless you so it was a happy memory for me. Also those who are here from other countries who don't know the social services system and how to get help could also benefit.

  2. A local church that has a food bank would likely take them, if you called ahead and asked them.  They usually only operate certain hours, so you would have to take them there when they were open.  How about your own church, if you go to one?  Sometimes the youth group at my church has events where they are at the church during meal-time, and they would take ANY food that they could cook and eat!  Other than that, you might mention to a neighbor that you need to free up freezer space, and ask if she can use the list of what you want to get rid of...

  3. no charities will take perishable items...you can try your local freecycle group...you will need to register, then offer up your item...the person wanting the item will call/email...and come pick it up....good luck

  4. It is not correct that no charity will take perishables many food ministries and food pantries do take them assuming that these things are still within safe use date and have not been thawed and refrozen the simplest solution however may be to ask your own pastor if someone in the church can use them or offer them to someone you know who is working to make ends meet, perhaps an elderly neighbor. Freecycle can also be a good idea so can finding the number for a food miniostry or food pantry near you and calling to ask if they can use frozen foods.
