Frozen margarita recipe?

I know how to make the classic margarita. But how much do i need to add up to each ingredient to make a frozen margarita? What's the right recipe? Can I simply double the amount of each to compensate for the ice?

By the way, my recipe for classic margarita is:

50ml tequila

1oz cointreau

dash of sugar syrup

1oz lime juice

1oz sweet and sour mix

  1. Actually, there is no Cointreau in a "true" Margarita, yet no rule against adding it (it's a top-shelf French Orange Liqueur ----as you probably know)

No need to "compensate for ice", as ice makes up a portion of the beverage itself, and will NOT dilute the drink. By doubling the amount of each ingredient to "compensate for the ice" is not recommended nor necessary.

I see that you've omitted Triple Sec from your recipe. I'd LOVE to taste your Margaritas (no salt please) ..HA!

NOTE: If you DO use salt on the rim of your glasses. Here's a great tip:

Use a small salad plate or saucer and cover it with COARSE KOSHER SALT.

Take a small lime wedge and run it around the rim of the glass a few times. Place the rim of the glass onto the salt and use very little pressure. Move the rim left and right (or vice versa) back and forth just a few times in the salt .....and voila!

Added Note: Here are a few links for some variations of Margaritas and good mixing practices:

  2. my never fail recipe is this:

    pinch salt

5 or 6 cubes of ice

    50ml tequila

    15ml cointreau

    30ml lemon juice

and then salt to frost the rim (but sometimes i just do sugar when i'm not feeling like salt. watever you do don't overdo it.

its really nice and I haven't had a problem with it yet :)

  3. well follow this

    Frozen Margarita recipe

    2 tsp coarse salt

    1 lime wedge

    3 oz white tequila

    1 oz triple sec

    2 oz lime juice

    1 cup crushed ice

Place salt in a saucer. Rub rim of a cocktail glass with lime wedge and dip glass into salt to coat rim thoroughly, reserve lime. Pour tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and crushed ice into a blender. Blend well at high speed. Pour into a cocktail glass.

  4. Try this it will solve your problem:

2 (6 ounce) cans frozen limeade concentrate, thawed

    1 1/2 cups tequila

    1/2 cup Triple Sec

    2 tablespoons sifted confectioners' sugar

    Ice cubes

    Lime wedges

    Coarse salt

    Lime slices (for garnish)

Combine half of each of the first 4 ingredients in container of an electric blender. Process 30 seconds. Gradually add enough ice cubes to bring mixture to 3 1/2 cup level; blend until smooth. If you want to freeze for later use, pour mixture into a large freezer container. Repeat procedure with remaining half of ingredients. Cover tightly and freeze up to 1 month.

To serve, If frozen, thaw 20 minutes or until mixture becomes slushy. Rub rims of cocktail glasses with lime wedge. Place salt in saucer; spin rim of each glass in salt. Pour beverage into prepared glasses. Garnish, if desired. Serve immediately.

    Yields about 7 cups.

  5. A blended margarita is generally a less potent version of a true margarita, so you'll probably only increase those amounts about 25% plus a cup of ice per drink.

  6. Okay, follow this recipe to a T, it is by Liquor Live and is so easy and tastes great:
