Question:

Frozen paypal account

Recently I opened a ebay and paypal account for some basic buying and selling. For buying, I added about £500 to my paypal account to use on Ebay. I also placed a few items for sale on ebay for less than £100.

However, paypal recently froze my account and wrote to me asking for me to send them my licence, bank statment, utility bill, name and address of my 'supplier' and receipts for all the items I am selling on Ebay. They also want me to add both a bank account and credit card.

I thought this was too hard, so I wanted to withdraw the £450 remaining, but they won't let me. They have effectively taken the £450 from me and won't give it back.

How can I get the money back??

  1. Call them right a way! What did you do wrong on Paypal or Ebay that you are not telling us. Because I have never had any problems

  2. file a claim

  3. Everyone thinks their money is safe with Paypal

  4. Yes it's because you haven't added a credit/debit card. Basically, someone may have hacked your account and they are trying to protect you, and also with so many e-bay scams they have a duty to be able to positively know you are who you say you are. Go onto their site and look down the bottom for their contact us section and take it up with them, but I suspect you are going to have to prove your id to get your cash back.

  5. Unfortunately, PayPal is the biggest scam online. They took $524 of my money and paid it to a scammer. I purchased two very expensive phones on Ebay, and the seller sent me a package with delivery confirmation. I eagerly opened it to find...a ROCK!! Yes, a stone. Tiny boulder. The seller indignantly showed PayPal the delivery receipt and PayPal cleaned out my account and froze it for "fraudulent activities".

So I am out a lot of money and very, very angry. Also, read the fine print about PayPal's "FEES" to investigate a claim. The fees eat up any money you may have had coming to you. Money orders for me!!!

  6. contact paypal they have asked me to update my account too but they didn't ask for all of these things

  7. Unfortunately, PayPal are well within the law to ask for this proof, as this is the apart of the T&Cs you agreed to when you opened and funded your PayPal account. They do this to try and prevent fraud. If you don't provide this information, then the funds will automatically be released to you in six months (yes, six months) via the same method you used to fund your PayPal account. In the mean time, the only thing you can do is provide the proof they require to have your account unfrozen so you can withdraw the funds yourself.

  8. It depends what reason the gave for keeping it, they must have given you one. If you tell us that we may be able to offer advice.

They are obviously treating you as a trader, the income tax people will be involved next, because Ebay will inform them that you have been trading.

  9. my mother used to have paypal but had to change it because there was alot of scams going on... i dont know what to tell you or how to solve your problem, but i can warn you. WATCH OUT

  10. its to confirm who you are, its normal for them to insist you add a bank account and credit card on file, i have heard of some people having to send id aswell. but i dont see how anyone can provide all the reciepts for what they are selling, i make all my own jewellery to sell there so i wouldnt have reciepts for anything!

phone them direct to ask why and exactly what do they want you to send, it is probably because you have transfered so much money so soon after opening it, they always check the bank account and card belongs to you.

Good luck, i hate paypal. there are too many scams going on there, it is just to protect the account holder
