Frued's discovery of unconscious mind on Dada and Surrealism?

I'm trying to find answers on this for a essay I have to write, so if anyone knows anything about it and would be kind enough to share with me on it I would be greatly appreciated!!

  1. Freud had little relationship to Dada.  The dada artists (Boll, Arp, Duchamp, early Artaud) were trying to assemble nonsense.  The original motivation was World War I, which they saw as ultimate evidence that life was pointless and irrational, so they put their art together in ridiculous, nonlinear ways to reflect that belief.  Now, you might stretch it to say that the products of their attempts at randomness created a sort of aesthetic Rohrshak test, but I'd find that assertion a little forced if I were grading it.

    Surrealism, OTOH, was greatly influenced by Freud.  Its primary icon, Dali, intentionally sought to paint the stuff of his dreams as a means to explore his own subconscious.
