Fruit Flies! Help?

We had a basket that we kept fruit in but there was fruit flies everywhere so we took the fruit out and put like chips and stuff in it instead but the fruit flies seem to mutliply and stay around the basket. So we finally got rid of the basket but the fruit flies wont go away. Where are they coming from? I swear I killed a hundred already and they keep coming back ! Help how do I get pid of them!

  1. I put a little small dish with some water wine and soap.

    They go to the dish cause the wine, and then they die and get stuck cause of the liquid dish soap.

  3. prevention:

    Bleach sanitize everything! They're probably in your sink drain, the garbage can too.  Bleach the basket.  Bleach counter tops and anything else they could be using to eat. (Sanitation guidelines for bleaching are 1 TBS to1 Gallon water good for 24 hours, but I go a little stronger)

    killing them:

    Best way: Get one of those fly ribbons.  

    Home remedies:

    Vinegar does indeed catch more flies than honey, so leave some vinegar out in a bowl

    Also, I like empty wine bottles or juice bottles:  they get drunk, can't find their way out and then the next morning you cap it and toss it!
