Are the sugar and calories in fruits and vegs different with other foods?

  1. Sugars and other carbs in fruits and vegetables are sometimes different forms of carbs, and sometimes are like carbs in other foods but they're absorbed differently due to fiber or compounds in the foods.

    Some foods have a lot of sugar or carbs, but the glycemic load is different because they are absorbed faster or slower than, say, refined white sugar (which is absorbed differently than high fructose corn syrup or glucose.)

    Whole foods tend to be better for you because you get vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, all kinds of stuff you don't find in highly refined foods.  As a rule, the carbs from fruits or vegetables are preferable to any refined sources of calories because of the nutrients you get along with the carbs.

    But no, the carbs are often pretty much the same.
