Fruit help?

there is a small green fruit in our backyard on a tree. It is small green and there is a big nut inside, it smells limey but it isnt a lime it is kinda bumpy. We are in kentucky if this helps you. What kind of fruit is it?

Probably a crab apple.  Don't eat them.

If there is a nut inside, It might be a pecan tree.

Perhaps a hickory nut.  They are common in KY.
