  1. nooo.. only lemons would help. that would work if you wanted a tangy sweat and sour salad.. with mangos and stuff

  2. Gelatin has absolutely nothing at all to do with fruit turning brown.  It has no citric acid, which prevents browning. You can buy a jar of Fruit Fresh (baking aisle, or near the canning goods) to keep fruit from turning.  However, SUMMER fruits don't turn color - except bananas, and just add them at the last minute (or not at all).  Use MELONS, BERRIES, peaches, kiwi, plums, grapes, cherries, pineapple in the summer.  Melon absolutely does NOT break down!  I have cantaloupe and honeydew balls in a glass bowl for several days in the refrigerator....... Save the oranges, apples, pears and bananas for the WINTER months, when the other fruits aren't readily available...... TROPICAL Fruit salads are a nice option too:  oranges, pineapple, papaya, mango, bananas with a little sprinkled coconut on top

  3. well, the jello gelatin will act as a preservative for any fruit that is inside it, because the browning comes from contact with air.  so, no air=no brown stuff.  the types of fruits that i would use are pineapple, peaches, apples, maybe even grapes.  you don't want to put any type of melon in it, because melon breaks down quickly and might ruin the texture of the jello.

    good luck.

p.s.  melon has a high water content, so yes, it does break down quicker. and gelatin does not have anything to do with browning of fruit, true, but if something is suspended in gelatin, it will not have contact with air, thus will not oxidize your fruits.
