Fruitarianism and Growth?

I'm 15 and I have just recently started being a fruitarian (maybe 2 weeks ago)..but now I realize that this may not have been the right thing to do since i haven't gotten my period yet and i have heard that this diet makes you stop growing very quickly. I'm not sure what to do now and whether I should worry about this and how it will affect my menstrual cycle. I'm also nervous because I start Track in a few weeks and I know that this diet may affect my running times because of the lack of protein. I did a lot of research before beginning the diet but now I realize that there may be many consequences. I'm open for any information that anyone has on the fruitarian diet or my situation in general. Thanks ahead of time.

  1. Fruitarianism? A little extreme, don't you think? Your body is still growing and needs proper nutrients. I would suggest going back to eating regularly. Start in on that good ol' protein again, and then maybe try vegetarianism? Not veganism, not yet.

  2. you should never change your diet with out approval of your doctor

  3. I'm a lactose vegan. I had to look up Fruitarianism before I could answer your question. I don't think eating only fruit is healthy. Yes fruit is very important, but so are vegetables and grains and protein. Veggies are also natural, just like fruit. Diets fads change all the time, but the food pyramid has never changed. Your body needs food from all groups to work properly. Without protein your iron will drop and you will become anemic. Which can affect your periods. You'll also be too tired to run track. You can grow your own veggies or go to an organic store to avoid all the chemicals. Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein. You can get 100% natural peanut butter or just eat nuts. Please talk to a doctor. You've only been a fruitarian for 2 weeks, it's not too late to start eating healthy again. I became vegetarian at age 9, I'm 32 now and healthy. I always made sure to eat from all  the food groups. I just don't eat animal or eggs or sea food. You have to make sure to get your yearly blood test done to make sure everything is normal. Make sure to take your vitamins also. Good luck

  4. please see a nutritionist  and  begin a HEALTHY eating regimin

Obviously you didnt fully  educate yourself on this diet and consequences

This diet seems to have developed over time, with no one taking responsibility for its development. The basic principle of this diet is that users should eat a diet that is 75+% raw fruit by weight, and the remaining foods eaten should be vegan and raw. Many individuals believe that this kind of diet can detox the body, and makes users “beautiful and pure inside and out”, as well as enhancing mental and physical abilities. However, there are no scientific data to back up the validly of these claims. I may not be nutritionally sound.

    go eat a steak !!

  5. that's a VERY big undertaking if you don't know what you're doing.  You need a Mentor for someone to guide you in that process.  Until then just stick with a easier diet that you know about and can do on your own.

  6. I don't think it's a very good idea. Going on just fruit for a short period of time is good for you, because it does clean the toxins out of your body, but it shouldn't be a long term things. A diet of fruit only will leave you deprived of a lot of vitamins/minerals etc that you need to grow and maintain health. Nothing wrong with being vegetarian if you don't want to eat meat/animal products, but you should be having vegetables as well as fruit, and you will likely also need to take some supplements eg. iron
