When is the season for oranges and apples?

Will fruits be significantly cheaper during the season?

How much do Queenslanders pay for fruits per kg?

Thanks.

  1. Hi. Apples are in season around March. Our principal apple growing area is Stanthorpe, about three hours south west of Brisbane. They have an annual apple and grape festival.

Queensland is not a big grower of oranges, the bulk of growing happens in NSW and Victoria, but we do have a bit of a season in the Central Burnett region around March/April.

I buy my apples for about 4 bucks a kilo, but that can vary up and down depending on supply. Oranges are a tiny bit cheaper but you're looking at about 4-ish a kilo for navels.

Bananas are the big fruit here, and they are usually quite inexpensive...around 1.50-3 dollars a kilo, although a couple of years ago bananas were super expensive because of Cyclone Larry, which wiped out most of the mature crop in Nth Qld.

We're also known for the best mangoes in the known universe (a summer fruit, Nov-Jan season), pineapples (grown in large number just north of Brisbane) and macadamia nuts (the jewel in the crown, and native to the Brisbane area).
