Question:

Fruits & veggies are ALIVE... even you veg*ns out there kill to eat... why deny it?

Even vegetables are living. Before you dig up the spuds, cut the cabbage or pick the fruit it is ALIVE. So like most species we eat other species to support our lives. Even vegetarians kill things to eat. It's crazy, they'll kill a cauliflower plant to eat it, but because a lamb is cute they won't. I fail to see the difference. Is vegetable life not as valuable as animal life? People scream about cutting down living rain forests, but not a field of cabbages. People scream about killing a sheep, but not a snake! Why do you think that is?

  1. I think the science behind it is that since plants (fruits and vegies) don't have a central nervous system or a heart or even the capability of thought that might be why it's "ok"

I used to be a vegitarian and I liked it for a couple of years but sooner or later the human body will crave meat (some form of it, red meat, white meat, fish ect.)

  2. It's true, plants are alive.  But unless you think the only morally correct thing to do is to lay down and die because there's nothing you can eat that isn't alive, you HAVE to eat something.

Plants are seen as the less objectionable choice because they don't feel pain.  Plants DON'T have nervous systems.  It's a proven fact.  Animals do.  Animals have nervous systems much like ours, and WE know what pain feels like.  When animals are injured or slaughtered, they scream and try to get out of the way.  It's obvious that they feel pain.

Besides, if you really care about plants, you'd eat them in the first place instead of eating animals.  The animals have to eat plants before you can eat them.  You save more plants by eating them in the first place.  A cow must eat 16 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of beef.  Therefore, if you wanted to be responsible for the least amount of plant slaughter, you would eat the grain in the first place.  It wouldn't make sense to eat 1 pound of beef (and therefore 16 pounds of grain) instead of 1 pound of grain in the first place.

The reason people "scream" about cutting down the rainforests and not the cabbages is because rain forests are vital to the health of the biosphere.

Personally, I think it is wrong to "scream" about killing a sheep but not to "scream" about killing snakes.  I kill neither.  A being that feels pain is a being that feels pain.

  3. I am vegan.  I don't care that animals are killed to feed meat eaters.  I care that they are treated cruelly before slaughter.  I won't support the industry with my dollars.

At some point in the future, when I am able, I may keep chickens, and eat their eggs.  And when they get old and no longer produce, I may lob their heads off, as painlessly and quickly as possible, seeing to it that the animal isn't any more frightened than absolutely necessary.  My dogs eat meat, and they would eat the old chickens I slaughtered. That would mean that I would stop being vegan, but at least I wouldn't be giving my money to an industry that is horribly cruel to animals.

I won't buy animal products for the same reason that I wouldn't buy a dog from a puppy mill.

  4. Because people don't want to kill cute things just ugly things

  5. Easy: Veggies don't have central nervous systems.

  6. We do not dispute that vegetables are alive and that they have been killed to support us.  What most of us (except the fruititarians) object to is the infliction of unnessasary pain.  Plants lack a central nurvous system and most scientists agree that they are not able to experience pain.  Food animals are kept in unsanitary conditions, many have parts of thier bodies cut off without painkillers (tails, beaks, testicles), freeze to the sides of the transport trucks in the winter, die of heat exposure in the same trucks in the summer, and chickens can be legally boiled alive to remove  thier feathers (birds are exhempt from humane slaughter laws).  To me that's a bit different than pulling up a carrot.  And I would not kill a snake unless it was poisonous and threatened either me or my loved ones.  I won't even smash spiders.

  7. i really dont know much about vegans and such, but i suppose its because fruits dont have faces.. or hearts.. but they do breathe!!

  8. yes i get what ur trying to say but about the trees compared to cabbage well firdt of all its a renewablr resource.... we can always plant thatem and eat them quickly but with a tree it takes year to grow ou and with sheep its because its a morw common to be known as a cute harmless animal and what you hear is mostly talk that pll dont like snakes. it is a stereotyped animal that is very common symbol in the us so ur question is more of an opinion q than a fact... hope i helped

  9. people make such complex to let themselves engage in work.

  10. What no one else has pointed out is that, vegetarians kill living things to eat ONCE-meat eaters kill the plants to feed the animals and then kill the animal.

  11. its true that fruits and vegetables are alive, but they don't have any nervous system so they don't feel pain.

  12. technically it may be alive, but it has no brain or nervous system. so it cant be alive w/o a brain. animals have brains and a nervous system. the plants have roots which are their digestive system, but gas is expelled by leaves. so they are and they are not alive.

  13. Yawn.

Actually, unless the snake were threatening someone, I would be upset at someone killing the snake.  And I am utterly scared of snakes.  But as long as I don't have to be anywhere near them, I say let them go on and do their snake thing.

And while plants are living things, they don't have central nervous systems, so they cannot register pain.  They also lack the ability to escape being eaten, so sensate ability would do a plant no good.  Furthermore, you, dear Ignorant Omni, eat plants, too, don't you?  And you know that the animals on whose corpses you dine ALSO eat plants--it takes many pounds of plant food to produce a pound of animal food--don't you.  It would be so nice if omnis retired the "what about the plants" whine and found a more original argument.

Oh, and if the rain forests go, say goodbye to your planet Earth.  It's not just vegans who care about the rainforests.  It's not just vegans who acknowledge them as the planet's "lungs".  Think, silly girl, THINK!!!

  14. I think it's because they feel no pain. But I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, so I really don't know. But I also thought that crustations (sp?) felt no pain. So can't they eat lobster or crab?

  15. I'm an omni, but I suggest you find some more logically sound arguments before trying to diss veganism. Of course people kill plants to eat- however, plants do not have nervous systems and cannot feel pain. Animals feel both pain and emotion, and can suffer. Plants cannot.

As for the people mad about killing a sheep over a snake, this is exactly the problem that veganism addresses. Veganism is not just a diet, it's a belief system that reduces all living creature to the same level- humans are worth as much as dogs are worth as much as pigs are worth as much as fish and so on. It is generally the omnis who make such distinctions.

  16. because plants cant feel the pain.  or think about it.  or even care.  they have no brains.  its a scientific fact.

and as for the snake, it is unfair...

  17. i've thought this to many times but you can't expect us to stop eating. I am a vegitarian becasue I don't like to eat things that had thoughts and fears and love inside them. plants do not they sit there and give us another thing that we need as humans....oxygen. So if you really mean what you said you must also think that vegans have they're wrong for breathing because oxygen comes from something that you believe is "alive". If i could i would not eat plants either but.....

    hope this helped.

ps this is my opinion and more than likely not all vegetarins have the same thoughts.

  18. because everyone has an issue of some kind, myself personally..you are going to love this.... fall in a class I call... 8 to 80, blind, crippled and crazy.. covers everybody, why do atheists swear and take the Lord's name in vain?  if they don't believe in God?  you just asked what our generation calls the 64 million dollar question

  19. we dont breed fruits and vegetables to kill them and thats what it is really about is animal rights breeding to kill.  and i hate when people kill snakes. think about this what grows faster cabbage or huge trees that have been there for hunderads of years and are still growing THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!!!!
