Frustrated Hanley Ramirez slams knuckle in cooling fan after getting grounded out – MLB News
Frustration abounds for the Miami Marlins. Ending the first half of the season on a low, not only the management is growing restive over disappointments, players are also losing patience.
In the game against the St. Louis Cardinals, their third baseman Hanley Ramirez headed to dug-out in a fury after being grounded-out and whacked the cooling fan to vent his anger.
Following the incident, stitches were needed on his knuckle, which bore the brunt in the process of the fan getting slammed.
Criticism was to arise as a natural consequence of it. Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen hit out at him, calling his act a stupid and an immature way of dealing with tough situations.
Ramirez has been struggling on the plate in the season, in particular during road trips. Other than the month of May, he has failed to live up to his role in the line-up. While his defensive approach has been commendable on the field, his on-plate talent
has not been seen often in the season.
Along with the rest of the hitters, Ramirez has proven equally responsible for such a forgettable end of the first half.
To make amends for it in the second half by putting up improved shows, is the only way through which he can get rid of criticism that he is inviting at the moment.
Right now, Ramirez will be trying to get the stitches on his knuckle removed and become ready right after the All-Star break.
Meanwhile, discussing as to what happened to him while he was on his way back to the dugout, Ramirez explained that he lost control for a while and did something he should not have done.
At the same time, he stated that sooner or later he has to start contributing more, in terms of run production.
"I got mad," Ramirez said. "I think its starting to bother me because I know we can do better than this. Personally, I'm not comfortable with what I'm doing right now. I know I'm playing hard, but at the same time I have to produce more."
Ramirez will be rehabilitating during the All-Star break. He will like to come out as a better hitter on return after the break.
