Frustrated Vince Young in hot water after tossing uniform into the stands
Vince Young's tenure as quarterback of the Tennessee Titans could be finished after the 27-year-old had a meltdown after coming out of the game in the team's 19-16 loss to the Washington Redskins, and reputedly threw his uniform and shoulder pads into the
stands after leaving for the locker room at the end of the game.
Young sat out most of the second half and overtime because of a torn tendon in his right thumb (it may require surgery) and was replaced by Rusty Smith, as Kerry Collins continues to be sidelined with a leg injury.
Young spent most of the time on the sideline taking snaps and trying to look ready to return. After the game, Young left the stadium quickly and refused to comment on the situation. Young, on his twitter page, later issued an apology to his team-mates and
simply wrote, "I'm fine".
Head coach Jeff Fisher shared some words in the locker room with Young and it was clear that Fisher was not pleased with the way his starting quarterback comported himself. He was quoted during his post-game press conference as having said, "Clearly, that's
no way to respond, so we have some things we have to work out with him. He may need surgery and if that's the case, he's done for the year."
"I'm very disappointed. His teammates are disappointed. There's going to be frustration with losses. There are times when you really have to just dig deep and fight and turn to one another. I don't think you run and so I am disappointed."
When asked about Young's desire to return to the game after being examined by doctors, Fisher said, "He (Young) never came to me and said he was okay or wanted to go back in."
After things started to go poorly for the Titans offensively, boos began to rain down in the stadium and Young was seen waving his arms so as to egg the crowd on.
According to Steve Wyche of the NFL Network, Titans players were asked to remain mum to regarding the situation with Young.
