Frustrated with RadioShack, Ben Hermans signs with Leopard Trek for the coming season
Belgian professional cyclist Ben Hermans who is considered as one of the best time triallist and climber of the sport has signed with Leopard Trek as he leaves his previous team Radio Shack. The Belgian cyclist will be joining Leopard Trek from the start
of 2011.
Ben was not included in the list of cyclists to represent team RadioShack in the Vuelta a Espana and was frustrated as he stated that he always wanted to race in Giro d’ Italia and Vuelta a Espana. “I joined RadioShack to participate in the Giro d’ Italia
and Vuelta but in my two years, I have not,” he said.
Along with winning the Belgium Junior Time Trial Championship in 2004, Ben also won the Provincial Championship, Circuit du Hainaut and GP des Marbriers in 2008 along with the stage 5 of Tour of Belgium. In 2011 he was the first in Trofeo Inca, third in
the Grand Prix Pino Cerami, 6th in the final classifications of Giro di Sardegna and finished 8th at the Amstel Gold Race.
Kim Anderson who is the team manager for Leopard Trek is jubilant to sign the young rider as he shared his thoughts with the media, “We have closely monitored Ben’s results and development and I’m looking forward to working with him. Ben is still young,
but he is very professional and has the right attitude. I’m very confident that there is still room for improvement.”
The 25-year-old on joining Leopard Trek mentioned that he is proud and delighted to join the team and believes that it is one of the most inspiring team with the most professional cyclists. He further added that he is positive that joining Leopard Trek will
develop his skills and he is ready to work even harder for that.
Ben will now be riding with the Schleck brothers as he mentioned that his sprinting and climbing skills will be useful for the team and he will certainly be looking forward to play his role and help the new team by assisting Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck.
