Frustration building for Detroit Tigers as they lose to Cleveland Indians – MLB Update
Simmering frustration is building as pressure increases on Detroit Tigers. Winners of 2011 American League Central have been struggling to deliver the goods since the start of the season. The Tigers suffered their second series sweep of the season against
the AL Central rivals Cleveland Indians on Thursday, May 24 in the final game of a three match series between the two teams.
The hitting lineup once again failed miserably and the Indians took a six game lead in the American League Central Division with 26 wins. Tigers had a formidable 9-3 record a few weeks and everything seemed to be working for them. However, since then the
Tigers have managed to win just 11 out of 33 games and it will be interesting to see if they can change the course of their campaign in near future.
"It's not happening," Fielder said. "Obviously, if we knew what the problem was, we'd fix it. It's just not going our way right now. It's frustrating. But you play every day, so you've got to let it go at some point."
"You guys can say what you want," he said. "You write what you saw. The count is 3-0. It's not the best thing in the world when the guy doesn't even come close to throwing a strike. And he throws, what we all determined was without question, Ball 4. And
the guy gets that pitch. That's not good.”
The biggest worry for Manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski will be the failure of Tigers’ hitters to score enough runs for the pitching rotation to compete. Tigers average less than .150 in their last ten games. Justin Verlander has helped
the Tigers win some important games this season but even he will need support from rest of the players to match his stats from last year.
Tigers’ ace is 5-2 right now and he took his second loss on Thursday evening, thanks to a poor effort by the offence. Leyland will be hoping that the Tigers learn their lessons to put themselves in an authoritative position before the All Star Break.
