Fry machine?

Question

I just stopped at a hot dog place and I noticed that instead of vats of oil to deep fry the fries in, there was this big silver machine that spat out fries after a certain amount of time, and then the girl would put salt on them and bag them up. What was this machine? I've never seen something like it before. Does it still cook the fries in hot oil, just inside the machine? I need to know!

They are still fried.  Some fast food restaurants that do a high volume of fries have machines that empty the frozen fries in measured batches into a basket then through the fryer, etc.  It is just an automation of the system.
