Question:

Fuel Injector Dodge Dakota ?

I own a 1993 Dodge Dakota V6 engine 3.9l with about 150,000 miles on it. My truck has been idling around 500rpms and the engine shakes the truck when I put it into reverse and drive. So when I try to accelerate my truck doesn't speed up almost like it has no power. Today I did a compression test and all six pistons had a 150psi of pressure which is a little high according to my book. Also my spark plugs have like a black carbon build up on them and the sparks plugs are new. I did a fault code test on my truck and it told me to check my injector circuit.

So far I do not believe my fuel pump is broke because I do hear it running. I did not do a fuel pressure test yet or check the fuel injector wires.

recap of problems...... carbon build up on spark plugs, all 6 pistons have high psi pressure, engine shakes, check engine light is on, and slow acceleration like there is no power.

Should I check my ASD? Please help or give me an idea what to check to figure out what is wrong.

Thank you

  1. the high compression is a good thing, that means the engine is in good shape, you need to pull the codes  from it though, you could have weak fuel pump causing this too happen or a bad 0-2 sensor,it helps determine the amount of gas that is given to the engine by reading the exhaust temperature,so bad sensor could cause it to run too rich and this will cause it to blacken the plugs up in it,its probably running too rich on gas and you should notice some of this in the gas mileage, pull the codes from it first, then you,ll know what to do for it,without doing this you can literally spend hundreds of dollars on it that it don't need, good luck.

  2. I have heard of the same symptoms being caused by a clogged catalytic converter.  I would certainly check that out.
