I have a 1997 ford escort estate 1.8. I have just done 200km town driving and have used 33 litres of petrol. This semms a lot to me -- is it ?

  1. you got 17 miles per gallon of fuel. i would expect better from a 1.8 escort! Its over ten years old if its done high mileage it could be due for a major overhaul. do the basics first like a full service.


  2. If it's all stop-start town driving, then yes, it seems about right to get 17mpg from a 1.8 petrol engine. My diesel gets 40 mpg on a run (50mpg if I stick to speed limits :-), but drops to 18mpg in town.

    a 1.8 petrol 1997 Ford Escort is listed as returning 26mpg in urban traffic :-
