Fuel costs ! alternative solutions ?

Question

The auto manufacturers have droped the ball and lost it. A company that could convert cars and pickups to hydro electric or ethonol would be the thing. How do we make this happen.? How do we get the auto makers to get with the times? I would like to buy a new truck but don't wan't to get stuck with a gas burner if i can get a Green machine.

all the conversion technology is out there and ready to go, but the government wouldn't allow alternative fuels to just surface. sure, we wouldn't pay for gas, but do you know how bad the market would crumble if people started selling out all their exxon-mobile? I would rather have my 401k solid than avoid paying 40 bucks at the pump

I got a tonneau cover from my truck and saved over 2.76 MPG  on my 86' chevy!

There is no green machine that is practical. Range too short, battery too heavy,speed  too slow.
