Fuel efficient suvs and trucks?

I am looking for a fuel efficient truck/suvs, because starting nextt year I will have a 25 mile commute to school. If you have an SUV/truck and get semigood-really good mileage. I prefer american cars, but am open to other suguestions

  1. The new Saturn Vue gets really good gas mileage for an SUV. The hybrid in particular gets 25/32 mpg city/highway. The link that I've provided under my sources has a picture of the 2008 model.

  2. The Escape Hybrid gets near 40 miles in the city, but they are in limited supply. The Honda CRV is also very good, they get about 30 on the highway with cruise control and they are backed by honda's reputation

  3. If you need it to commute to school, why not buy a car?  Much better mileage.

  4. 1st question: why SUV/truck? The bigger the car, the more fuel it needs - simple physics.

    In my opinion SUVs should be banned (at least in cities). Not only do they consume more gas but also more space (which is actually very rare in many cities, especially over here in Europe). And they are more dangerous too - not for the driver, but for the pedestrians in case of an accident.

  5. I own a 2007 Caliber which is classified as a SUV. I am currently getting 36 MPG. It is very comfortable also.

    If it's not a hybrid suv, there really isn't a fuel efficient suv or truck.

    Why don't you get a cheap car to drive back and forth to school?

  7. Some of the hybrid SUVs go from 14 mpg to 17 mpg - hardly worth the extra cost. Buy a small vehicle like a Corolla (35 - 40 mpg) and drive to a park-n-ride lot next to the bus that will take you to school. Most colleges have bus service and student passes are cheaper than regular fare.

    Better yet, find someone with a similar commute and carpool.
