Fuel indicator on Chevy Malibu?

Question

if we fill the malibu('04) with gas, the indicator goes to the top,then after a few seconds drops back down;warning light etc.as though you need gas.......but....if we only fill it half way or so, it dosent do this, it stays at the appropriate level...what gives? It hasn't always done this..just in the past couple months.....what went/played out for this to happen? thanks

I think your fuel indicator is as confused as you are... this is a global warming forum - you wanted??

The indicator in your gas tank is not working properly you should take it to the dealership

I think your alternator is going bad. The same thing happened to me before my alternator went  bad on my 99 chevy malibu
