  1. 49p tax to the £

  2. Its about 65% in duty and VAT. It follows the price.

  3. at present it is 50.38p a litre but in october it is meant to go up to 52.3 a litre but also with the fuel tax u also pay VAT

  4. I read that 75% of what you pay is fuel tax & vat. It's an absolute joke. So at the current cost of unleaded (about £1.20) 90p is fuel tax & vat. If you are in the same position I was in, where I was struggling to afford the petrol prices and began walking & using more public transport, I HIGHLY recommend http://www.platinum-reviews.com/water4ga...

I can now use my car to get around again, without struggling to afford petrol prices as it has cut what I used to spend on petrol by half! Don't know what I'd do without it

  5. out of £10 in Fuel  7.50 goes in tax

  6. You need to keep in mind that ther are two very different taxes applicable to fuel.

Excise duties are basically taxes on certain products.  Basically they are used to control the use of these products and are generally aimed at products which may harm you, someone else or, more recently, the environment.

They are nearly always levied as a fixed amount per unit of product and are not based on the price charged.  As has been said the duty is currently just over 50p per litre.

VAT is a tax on consumers but is collected in parts by everyone involved in the supply chain.  This is charged as a percentage of the selling price.  At current prices around here it amounts to about 17 - 18p per litre.  This tax will, of course, vary as the price of oil changes.

The consumer ends up paying for both of these as the producer will want to recover the excise duty and does this by setting his prices higher.

  7. The tax percentage hasn't changed - you just pay more tax as the price rises.

It is currently about 86p per litre tax - that includes fuel tax & VAT
