  1. sounds like you have an exposed wire somewere that keeps shorting it out i would follow the wires and see maybe one got opend on the frame or something also chek the fuesses and relays i purchased a new fuel pump for my dakota no problems so go new atleast its gauranteed for a while little expensive but junk yards you dont no what your getting and no guarantee now its going to cost you even more when you thought you would save money

  2. if its diesal could be bad diesal and its just working to hard and burning out

  3. if you let it run really low near E all the time that shortens the life quite a bit but it could also be other problems

  4. The lower priced fuel are pumps are of a lesser quality, it is the 'you get you pay for' principal.  The pumps are cooled by the fuel.  If you run out of gas with an electric pump, the pump becomes instantly degraded and will soon quit.  If the pump is in the tank, make sure there is a baffle box surrounding the fuel filter sock at the bottom of the tank.  Without that box around the pump sock, fuel will not always be at the pump and could cause you problems.  If the fuel pump relay and wiring are good, I would by replacement pump that is not a 'discount' pump.

  5. Could be a bad fuel filter, if it is clogged, the pump has to work extra hard , that could burn it out, also, have your gas tank flushed, if you have any gunk in it, that will kill your fuel pump in a heartbeat. Could also be a coincidence, but if your going to change it again, get a new fuel filter and flush the gas tank while you have it down.

  6. its possible you could have got a bad fuel pump to start with ,that has happened tome a lot especially cheaper ones, but a bad ground wire will burn a pump out because it makes it try and draw too much voltage to operate, and this will burn one up in no time,it will also burn relays up on them making you think its the pump ,you might want to check the relay also, but make sure that the tank is grounded real good and that the wires for the connection at the tank are real good and tight,a bad connection will cause a lot of problems, good luck.
