My fuel pump recently gave out on I-75 in the swamps of Florida, I was rescued by a mechanic who towed my truck and me further into the swamps no kidding approx. 15 miles off the Hwy. my hairs are still standing on end after this adventure, but is $585.00 to much or reasonable to pay for this repair, towing, and a starring roll in a Stephen King movie?

  1. its a fair price..i know its crazy but the fuel pump is 400 dollars...yes i said 400...and u have to drop tank to replace...100 dollars...and a tow..85... fair...

  2. sounds bout right.

  3. That is about right for a Blazer pump replacement.  I've done plenty of them.

  4. That's about right with a tow.  GM insists upon putting the fuel pump in the gas tank on most of their vehicles.  (instead of in the line like a normal person would want it to be)

You've got to drop the tank and the exhaust system to put in a fuel pump.  $400 and change is about right.  By the way, had it been in the fuel line it would've been more like $150 to $200.

  5. No GM does not INSIST on putting them in the gas tank, ALL modern fuel injected vehicles have the fuel pumps in the gas tank.

    The price is reasonable.

  6. That actually sounds pretty cheap to me considering you have a tow bill in there too. I would authorize the work, just make sure you get at least a one years warranty parts and labor and make sure they aren't using a fuel pump purchased from Auto Zone.
