Fulham Owner Slams Roy Hodgson
Fulham owner Mohamed Al Fayed has slammed his team’s former manager as he accused Roy Hodgson of ‘taking advantage’ of the opportunity given to him by the London club. Hodgson left Fulham last month to take over as the new boss of Liverpool.
The 77-year-old Craven Cottage chairman launched the attack during a press conference where Mark Hughes was officially unveiled as Hodgson’s replacement. Hodgson had been at the helm at Fulham for two and a half years. When he took over, the club had been on the verge of relegation, but he took them to a seventh-place finish in the league in the 2008-09 season. He famously guided the club to the UEFA Europa League final in the 2009-10 season.
Taking aim
Al Fayed didn’t hold back during the rant, where he took aim at the 62-year-old and made the bold prediction that he would take Liverpool backwards while Hughes guided Fulham to the English Premier League title. He said: “Don't mention Roy Hodgson any more. This guy, we put him where he is now and he took advantage, but I'm sure he (Hughes) is going to get us to the championship."

"We gave him (Hodgson) all the support, we believed in him and he just let us down. Roy disappointed the fans and players. I did everything for him, to help him. But that's his character. He can't help it. I forgive him, anyhow - and I'm sure he's going to get Liverpool downhill," added Al Fayed.
Al Fayed also said that he was delighted to have Hughes on board for the upcoming season. He said: "Mark's a nice guy. He's got a great sense. The players, I'm sure, will like him. It's a different atmosphere here. I'm always here, I go to the training ground. I'll be dealing with him day-to-day, for sure. I've been a fan for 40 years and I love the club."
