Fulham defender Aaron Hughes wants a strong finish to the season: EPL News
Fulham defender, Aaron Hughes, has urged his team-mates to put the defeat against the Manchester United on their back and finish the ongoing 2010-11 season strongly.
Fulham suffered a 2-0 defeat against United at Old Trafford on Saturday, 9 April. Fulham are placed 11th on the league table with 38 points and are six points ahead of the relegation strugglers.
Only six matches are left to play in the season and Hughes thinks that at least two more victories will confirm their Premier League status for the 2011-12 season. The Cottagers were in good run of form before the Old Trafford game and Hughes insists that
his team needs to carry on with it.
“Old Trafford is a difficult place to get anything from, never mind when you go behind by two goals. We are obviously very frustrated by how the game went and to be fair to United they did enough didn’t they? They kept the ball well and made the most of
their advantage, which is what you expect. “
“It was disappointing to concede so early because we had made a decent start. The second goal was very unfortunate and perhaps we could have done a bit more. He said: “We’re two points away from the 40-point marker, which is traditionally the cut off point
for league safety.” Hughes told the club’s official website
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Northern-Ireland-c2972 international added that his team’s second half performance against Manchester United sent good signals of his team’s never say die attitude. He feels that the result could have been different had they take their chances in the game.
However, he gave full credit to United and praised them for playing like Champions and putting up a professional display.
The 31-year-old added that the league has become very tough in the recent seasons and his team has to improve on their away form in order to compete for European places in the future. Fulham have won only once in their 16 away games in the current season.
The fixture schedule is favourable for the London outfit, as they have relatively easy matches left to play as compared to other teams in the bottom half of the table.
