Fulham deny Mark Schwarzer transfer request reports
English Premier League club Fulham have denied reports claiming that goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has handed in an official transfer request. The 37-year-old is reportedly a target for Arsenal as Arsene Wenger looks to improve his options between the sticks, but the Cottagers have refuted claims that Schwarzer is about to leave the club.
Wenger is said to have offered the Australian a player-coach position, but new Fulham manager Mark Hughes had previously said that he wanted to hang on to his most important players as he looks to establish the team in the top half of the EPL table.
A spokeswoman for the club said that: "The club has not received a transfer request from Mark Schwarzer. Mark is under contract with us until the summer of 2011 and the manager has underlined his commitment to keep hold of his best players."
Featured in European final
Schwartzer came to prominence during his time at Middlesbrough in the 1996-97 season. He featured for seven times for the club in the league that season, but they were relegated from the EPL to the Football League Division One (now replaced by the Football League Championship).  The following season, however, he played in 34 league games as the club bounced straight back to the EPL. He spent 11 seasons at the club and featured in 445 games in total, including the 2006 UEFA Cup final, before moving to Fulham on a free transfer.
He has helped the club to a seventh-place finish in the 2008-09 EPL season and played an important role as the Craven Cottage outfit reached the 2010 UEFA Europa League final.
He is also his country’s number one goalkeeper and featured at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa though Australia were not able to progress to the knock-out stages of the tournament.
