Fulham manage to hang on to Zoltan Gera and Mark Schwarzer

Zoltan Gera, the midfielder at Fulham was one of the players expected to make a move before the transfer window closed, however he has remained at the Craven Cottage and says that he was aware of the interest but he is happy to be at Fulham.
This is the final year of his contract at Cottagers, and he has been linked with several clubs in England.  His former boss Roy Hodgson had also indicated that he may be interested in signing Gera for Liverpool, other than that Sunderland and German club Werder Bremen have also shown interest in signing the midfielder.
Last week he had been on the score sheet in the Carling cup for Fulham against Port Valle. Auxerre the club that qualified for Champions League were also believed to be interested in his services but no deal was established between the two clubs.
Gera said that he was aware of all the interest and was expecting the media to make his transfer a big topic. However he said that he is not interested in moving for now and is happy at Fulham and wants to concentrate on helping the club this season.
Fulham manager Mark Hughes said that number of clubs were interested singing Gera but he is a very important player for the club and he would like to keep him to have experience in the midfield.
Meanwhile Hughes is also delighted to have kept his goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. There was huge speculation surrounding the Aussie shot stopper right up till the transfer deadline. There was immense interest from Arsenal ever since the transfer window opened. Schwarzer had also made it clear that he wanted to leave Fulham and join Arsenal. Fulham however were not ready to budge and had made it clear that Schwarzer is not for sale untill they find someone who can replace him. There was no goalkeeper signed by Fulham before the end of ceadline and hence Schwarzer remained at Fulham.
Mark Hughes while talking to a news channel said that the situation surrounding Mark had been the topic of debate for a while, but there was no chance of the club letting him go before a suitable replacement could be found. He said that there was obvious interest from Arsenal and it had turned the head of Mark as well. But he added that looking at the big picture Schwarzer also realised what is best for the club and since, by the end of the deadline no suitable replacement was found he decided to stay.
There were reports that Arsenal had made a bid for Mark Schwarzer worth 4 million pounds, but Fulham manager insisted that there was no such approach made by the Gunners. Hughes said that they inquired about it but no bid was made by Arsenal on the final day.
Mark Hughes was also able to hold on to Bobby Zamora, there were number of clubs looking to sign the English striker but Hughes managed to keep hold of him as the transfer window closed.
Hughes said that Zamora is one player who is key to Fulham’s plans, and there was no chance that he was going to let him go.
The former Manchester City manager admitted that he was interested in signing his former striker Roque Santa Cruz. Hughes was the man who signed him at Manchester City from his former club Blackburn Rovers. Hughes said that the deal could not go through and he would have loved to sign Cruz, but he will try again in January.  He added that the club had several targets in the transfer window but obviously not all of them were met. Nonetheless, still he said that he did manage to get enough players to take the club in the right direction.
