Fulham sign Belgium striker Moussa Dembele
Fulham have announced the signing of Belgium international striker Moussa Dembele from AZ Alkmaar. The 23-year-old has joined on a three-year deal for a fee believed to be around £5m.
The versatile attacker, who can also play as a winger, spoke of his delight at being able to test himself in the English Premier League. He told Fulham’s official website that: “I am very happy to join Fulham and look forward to training with the team to prepare for the first home game of the season. It has always been a dream to play in the Premier League and I will make sure that I make the most of this opportunity.”
Happy to tie up deal
Fulham boss Mark Hughes was also pleased to tie up a deal for the striker and added that he hoped to sign some more players before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. "I’m glad that we have finalised the deal with Moussa Dembele and I would like to welcome him to the club. Moussa is strong and quick and will add another dimension to our attacking options, which is important for us. I look forward to working with him, and to hopefully, a few more additions before the window closes."
Dembele started out his career at Germinal Beerschot before moving to Willem II in 2005. Though the team struggled in his only season there, he still netted nine times in 33 games, with his pace and considerable range of passing attracting the eye of AZ, where he moved to in 2006.
He performed well in his first season and scored six goals. But it was his performances in the 2008-09 season which really marked him out as a considerable talent when his ten goals and several assists helped AZ to the win the Dutch Eredivisie, their first league title in 28 years. Dembele also plays regularly for his country and has scored five goals in 28 international games.
