Fulham striker says players are still behind Mark Hughes
Fulham striker Clint Dempsey claims the English Premier League club's players are still fully behind manager Mark Hughes despite their 1-1 draw with Birmingham City on Saturday 27 November.
Birmingham took the lead in the 20th minute in the game at Craven Cottage when Sebastien Larsson found the net for the visitors. Dempsey was able to restore parity when he headed home in the 53rd minute, but was unable to help his club find a winner.
The result means that Fulham have won just two EPL games this season and have drawn nine, to leave them a single point above 17th-placed Wigan Athletic and the relegation zone.
However, United States international Dempsey claims that former Manchester City manager Hughes will eventually turn the club's fortunes around after they reached the UEFA Europa League final last season.
He told the Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle: "We believe in the manager ― and we can only keep working for him. It's not wrong of fans to expect more. After last season, we've come to expect more of ourselves.
"We were taking the game to them before Birmingham scored. But we wanted to show character after last week's game against Manchester City [a 4-1 defeat], although it's frustrating with so many draws. Lots of guys have been here when it's been backs-to-the-wall,
including me, two out of the four years I've been here."
Fulham's next opportunity to move away from the bottom end of the table will come when they take on second-placed Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 4 December.
The Gunners have already lost three of their seven games at home this season, and a win for Fulham could see them move up to 13th in the EPL table, depending on other results.
