Fulham vs Newcastle United: Damien Duff helps Fulham edge past Newcastle
Fulham took on Newcastle United at the Craven Cottage in what was Fulham's twenty fifth and Newcastle's twenty fourth game of the league. The match was being set to be a spectacle, as Newcastle were going to have to
adjust to life without Andy Carroll and needed to prove to the fans that they could do fine without him.
The match kicked off with neither one of the two sides looking to get the better of their opponents early on. The match was going at a pace, which could be best described as a snail trying to catch a bus. However on
the 35th minute, the fans were reminded that this game was actually a contest as the first real chance of the game was created. Brede Hangeland knocked a ball upfield and Clint Dempsey was the quickest to reach it, the American then went on to fire
goal-wards from an acute angle and missed the back of the net, by inches.
Nonetheless, that was the best and only real chance of the game in the opening 45 minutes and at the half time break, the fans were begging their teams to go at it.
To the fans disappointment, none of their efforts to motivate the teams worked, as the second half seemed to be just as boring as the first.
Just when it seemed like the game would end in a stalemate, Damien Duff gave the fans something to cheer about. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Murphy played the winger on with a perfectly weighted ball over the top and Duff sprinted forward
and found the back of the net, despite scuffing his shot. However, the most notable thing about the goal was when Duff pointed to his badge during his celebration, it was clear that the former Newcastle player was showing the fans where his alliance was at,
while telling the away fans that all the booing in the world couldn't change what had just happened.
The goal from Duff was all it took for Fulham to get past Newcastle on the night and the match ended with the score card reading 1-0 in favour of the home-side.
The line-ups for the match were as follows:

Fulham: Schwarzer, Pantsil, Hughes, Hangeland, Baird, Dempsey, Sidwell, Murphy, Duff, Andrew Johnson, Dembele
Subs: Stockdale, Salcido, Gera, Kamara, Kakuta, Greening, Davies
Newcastle: Harper, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Barton, Nolan, Guthrie, Gutierrez, Best, Ameobi
Subs: Krul, Campbell, Lovenkrands, Perch, Ranger, Ferguson, Richardson
