Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew about how to get a Full Scholarship to MIT. Do they base it on grades, how badly they want you, your financial situation, or does it not exist? I looked, but I couldn't find any information on it....

P.S. I just finished my first year of High School. I have roughly a 4.0 GPA, and I am aiming for the Honors diploma. I'm also in the marching band, and next year I will be doing the academic super bowl and Science Olympiad.

  1. It is admirable to be so career driven at such a young age. We could tell you a lot of things to prepare you for that journey today, but they may not be true by the time you actually make it to apply at MIT. You still have several years of high school to contend with. One step at a time!

The one thing you can do to help your chances of getting a full ride to MIT is to continue to excel academically. There is a lot of competition to get into MIT, and the grades are one of the things they obviously look at. The second thing you will need to do is score very high on the SAT. This will be helpful in admission to whatever school you want to attend and is directly tied to how much merit scholarship money you are offered to attend these schools.

One more thing that will help you is to do volunteer work. Keep track of all your volunteering, too, so that you can list it on your college application and on your scholarship applications. Colleges tend to admit more "well-rounded" students, and volunteer work helps show that you are "well-rounded."

It's great to have a big dream such as this, while you still have a few years in front of you.  Good luck to you!
