Full Time Report Coca Cola Championship: Leeds United vs. Cardiff City
Venue: Elland Road
Score line: (0-4, J. Bothroyd 22’, 56’- Chopra 51’- Naylor 60’)
No changes were made during the break from both sides. The visiting side started the second half of this crucial fixture with more attacking intent. Cardiff City charged onto the field by earning an early corner. It was a well taken corner from City’s defender
but McCartney expertly cleared it.
Moreover, McCartney saved another effort from the attacker of the visiting team who took a long shot at the goal. But, at the fiftieth minute, the home side, Leeds United was awarded a free kick. United’s midfielder Snodgrass took the free kick brilliantly,
which was also exceptionally cleared by Cardiff’s keeper T. Heaton and Leeds got their first corner of the match.
Just a few minutes later, Cardiff City scored another goal and made it two nil. Chopra scored the second goal for the visitors. There was a real hint of offside as he was played through on goal by Hudson. Chopra hit in on target and despite Schmeichel’s
best efforts; the ball nestled in the bottom corner.
Right after the goal, Leeds United made a change. Somma was replaced by the new boy Roman Nunez, who was making his debut tonight.
Cardiff City started to control the fixture which was becoming one sided. It did not take long for the visitors to add to their goal tally, as Bothroyd found the net one more time in this match. The Cardiff city left forward scored for the second time in
this match on the 56th minute. The Bluebirds broke with Bothroyd feeding Burke on the right before he centred back to the striker, who side footed, and scored the goal.
Cardiff led the match by three goals to nil just before half time. That wasn't enough for the visiting side, who were aiming to top the Championship table tonight, as they found the net for the fourth and final time.
Right on the hour mark, Les Naylor scored a goal for the Bluebirds. Naylor unleashed a screamer from 24 yards that defeated Schmeichel and ended up in the goal.
With all four goals to their name, Cardiff City enjoyed the last thirty minutes of the game by keeping possession. City didn’t let Leeds United take any proper chances on their goal and were successful at keeping a clean sheet.
The match ended in favour of Cardiff City, who went on level points with Championship leaders, Queens Park Rangers while Leeds United fell to sixteenth spot in the table.
