Full Time Report: Inter Milan vs Werder Bremen – Inter stroll past Bremen
Inter Milan were all scheduled to take on Werder Bremen at the San Siro, in a game that promised to be a dynamite fixture from early on.
Werder Bremen were forced to play a make shift side, in the game, due to the fact that three of the star players from the team were out due to injuries. This was the reason why, Inter were poised to be the favourites on the night,
before the match even kicked off.
Rafa Benitez, the new Inter manager, was having a tough time keeping up with the reputation and legacy that Jose Mourinho had created at the club, but he still promised to deliver his best and get the players to deliver their very
best, every time they took to the pitch.
Benitez was also well aware of the fact, that a win tonight would see Inter go top of the group and such an opportunity wouldn't present itself so easily in the future.
From the very first second of the game, Inter Milan dominated. They were all over the pitch or to be more precise, they spent a majority of the game in the Bremen half, leaving the visitors with very little or no time on the ball.
The pressure that Inter were subjecting Bremen to soon materialized for the home side. On the twentieth minute, Samuel Eto'o found the ball at his feet, outside the Bremen area. He charged into the box and then went on to neatly
tuck the ball under the on rushing keeper. The ball ended up at the striker’s feet, after a poor goal kick was played and then managed to ricochet into his path.
Six minutes later however, it was two goals for Eto'o and Inter. A long ball was played to Eto'o who controlled the ball brilliantly, then took a step before carefully curling the ball past the keeper, who could do nothing more
than flap his hands in the air and hope for the ball to hit them.
Inter didn't seem to be satisfied just yet. They kept attacking like there was no tomorrow and soon got their third goal. This time around Eto'o turned to provider rather than score. The forward saw Wesley Sneijder making a beautifully
timed run and with no defender tracking his movement, Eto'o played a through ball to the midfielder, who did brilliantly to chip the keeper with a first time shot.
As far the fans were concerned at that point, the game was as good as over. Inter continued to dominate and Bremen kept on missing the half chances that they did manage to get in front of the home team’s goal.
Inter continued to attack relentlessly into the second half and managed to get their fourth goal in the eighty first minute. It was none other than Samuel Eto'o again, who managed to get his hat trick on the night. Sneijder slipped
in a pass to Eto'o who managed to leave the Bremen defense for dead, before side stepping the keeper and tapping the ball into an empty net, to get his eleventh goal in nine games with Inter so far this season.
Despite scoring four goals, there wasn't all good news for the Italian side. The teams captain Lucio had to be stretchered off half way through the second half, after the defender seemed to rupture the ligaments in his knee. It
is still unclear as to what really happened to the player, but there is more to follow on that later.
All in all, it was one solid performance from Inter, who will be looking to take this same form into their domestic league, this coming weekend.
